HD TV
(high definition television) is here and will revolutionise TV viewing.
Advanced technology has made it possible for broadcasters and TV programme
makers to deliver crystal clear pictures with incredible surround sound.
The "normal" TV you watch at home is broadcast using a format
called PAL. (Phase Alternating Line) A PAL picture displays 576 visible
rows of pixels on the screen, and these are interlaced. This means that
the whole picture is not shown in one frame, but instead all the odd rows
are shown first then all the even rows. That means that the complete picture
is only created after every second frame.
HD TV consists of up to 1080 lines of pixels and enables every row of
pixels to be shown in every frame, creating a much visually stunning picture.
The sound through HDTV will also be vastly improved.
