The Kindle e-reader is available to buy online in Ireland from Amazon.com .
Irish residents who want to buy a Kindle Reader have to buy it from Amazon.com - the US site. It is not possible to get one delivered to Ireland from Amazon UK.

A new Kindle was launched on September 28th 2011 - with a lower price of $109 dollars
With taxes and shipping to Ireland added it comes to about €120 Euro (Actual euro price will depend on exchange rates when you buy)

The 3G version of the Kindle with a keyboard is priced at $189 Dollars - which after tax and shipping fees to Ireland works out at about €195 Euro

Take a look and find out more about the Kindle at Amazon Here

Viking Direct are also selling the Kindle in Ireland - and the prices are slightly lower than Amazon. View the Kindles available on Viking Direct Here .
The prices shown on Viking are excluding VAT - but VAT is added at checkout. Delivery is free anywhere in Ireland. This option might be easier if you are buying the Kindle as a present for someone else.

The 3G enabled Kindle can acess the internet for free via Vodafone Ireland's 3G signal. It can also be used to access the internet in over 100 countries around the world - so you can download new books on the move almost anywhere in the country . There is no charge other than the amount you pay to Amazon for the e-book.
There is even a basic browser built in to the Kindle - so you can also check web based email such as Gmail and browse many websites for FREE in over 100 countries ! It might not work too well with image heavy sites - but fine for browsing news sites / forums etc.
The Kindle lets you read for up to one month on a single charge versus a few hours on an Ipad or smart phone.

The new Kindle Touch and the Kindle Fire were launched in the USA also on September 28th 2011. These new Kindles are not available in Ireland or the UK - and it could be a while before they are.
Northern Ireland and other UK Residents should buy their Kindles here at the Amazon UK Kindle Page
For Irish residents - the eBooks on Amazon also have to be purchased on Amazon.com - but prices are generally similar and there are many FREE ebooks available. Amazon.com has 470,000 English-language books to choose from; plus U.S. and international newspapers and magazines .
If you already have an account with Amazon.co.uk - it will be recognised by Amazon.com - no need to set up a new one.

Review of the Kindle in PC Magazine: "Simply put, it's the best dedicated ebook reader you can buy… Amazon has managed to increase the contrast on the Kindle in a way that sets it above the Nook, Sony Readers, or any other dedicated ebook reader we've tested "...

How to Buy e-books from Amazon UK in Ireland
Some Irish Kindle users have found that some Kindle books are not available on Amazon.com or are more expensive than the UK site.
It is possible for Irish residents to buy Kindle books on the Kindle UK Store - BUT only if your billing address is in the UK. You will also need to amend your country settings to UK in the "Manage Your Kindle" area.
IP addresses are not checked by Amazon to determine which Kindle store you should be using.
Some Irish people are setting up 2 Amazon UK accounts - their main one for delivery of "real" products to their Irish address - and a second account with a UK address (maybe a relative or friend) that is used just for buying ebooks for Kindle. An Irish credit card can be used on both accounts. It is probably a bit over the top just to save a few Euro.
